Virtual Running Club & Vacation Races Present:
Backyard Ultras Virtual Race
Do your first Ultra race all at once or a little at a time! Distances options from Half Marathon to 100K
We're really excited. And happy. Positive thoughts!!
Why? Because this quarantine just keeps going we're introducing a brand new race destination!! (I really hope this doesn't become a thing.)
This promises to be our most exotic course yet. ;)
Wildlife? It's very possible. Obstacles? Sure, there might be. Waterfall? That's probably pushing it. (You could always get creative with the garden hose though.)
"But I've never run this far before." It's okay, we believe in you! (Also, you can break it up over multiple days. You have until July 31 to finish.)
100K / 50 miler / 60K / 50K / Half Marathon
(you don't have to do it all at once)
"Race Day" is June 20, but you can do yours whenever you want and take as long as you want.
Registration deadline extended to July 8!
We'll start shipping medals at the end of June to anyone who ordered one and reported their time. (Hopefully the apocalypse is over by then.)
Report your finish by July 31st.
Something something o'clock
You'll probably just be running in circles.
Trail. Or trampled grass as it were, probably some dandelions. (Let's be honest, we all stopped caring about our yards when the TP ran out.)
You WANT to push a stroller that far?
Hey, you're in their territory now.
Driving Directions? Where to stay? Aid stations?
Pull out your phone. Open Google maps. See that red pin? Yeah, that's a good spot.
To sum up, if you're so bored at this point that you've actually lost track of how many miles you've run, this is probably a good way to get a medal out of it. Or a rad race shirt.
Invite a friend to run with you!
C'mon, let's not pretend your friends are into this stuff.
Beautiful Swag Options
In all seriousness, this is a real "virtual" race that you can sign up for! Do it on your own time and wherever works best for you. A portion of each registration will be donated to the Wander Project to support our National Park communities.

These actually ARE real this time
Course was great! After race party food delicious! But the course support could use some work...they ran out of GU at mile 10!
This was an awesome race!!! There was even a clean restroom before we started, and a great meal with drinks followed!!! I will definitely do this again!!
Why would I pay ANYONE to let me do an impersonation of a hamster on a wheel? That's why I don't buy gym memberships. I am not someone's pet rodent! If I want to be a hamster, I'll stuff my cheeks with junkfood.
I'm down with this one because I don't have to run at 6:30am!

Registration Deadline & Race Day
Registration will be open through race day as supplies last. Most people will run that day BUT you can do it when and where works best for you. Because we strive to honor the tradition of in-person races, you’ll receive messages as if that is race day for you, just know that we’re okay with it if you need to do something different.
Shirts & Bibs
Shirts and bibs are printed specifically for each participant. Shirts and bibs ship regardless of whether your time is reported. All swag ships separately. Once a registration is complete (paid for), it cannot be changed. Registrations are processed according to the timelines below. If the color of the shirt you select is out of stock, the next closest color will automatically be substituted for you. Click here to download your own generic digital bib PDF.
Early Shipment Deadline: Register by May 31 and your shirt and/or bib will arrive around June 19
Regular Shipment Deadline: Register June 1-June 21 and your shirt and/or bib will arrive around July 10
Extended Shipment Deadline: Register June 22 - July 9 and your shirt and/or bib will arrive around August 5.
This is a "slippery" polyester shirt
Youth (To choose select "Men" then S, M, or L)
Medals must be earned by finishing the race. This helps us maintain the spirit of the traditional race experience. We'll begin shipping medals shortly after the race in late June to those participants who:
added a medal to their registration AND reported their finish time (by the reporting deadline)
The reporting deadline is usually 30 days after an event. Considering what's going on in the world, reporting will be open through at least July 31, 2020.
NOTE - We are working to get the medals manufactured as quickly as possible. They are tracking to be done at the manufacturer as shown above. Essential items are getting priority when being shipped, so that might cause a delay. Thanks for your patience.
HOW SHIPPING WORKS
All swag ships separately. Shirts & Medals ship with a tracking email from firstname.lastname@example.org. Bibs are sent first class with a stamp. Do not use scissors to open the packages. Please tear with your hands.
For tracking your distance and time, you can use whatever app or system that works best for you. All we need is the finish time. We use the honor system to verify results, so if you say you did, we have no reason to not believe you.
How to track your time over time
If you are going to do this race over more than one run/walk, you can keep track of your own time and then at the end submit a cumulative finish time.
Results are just for fun - but see how you stack up.
100K, 50 Mile, 50K, 50K, Half Marathon: The distance you chose when you register is technically a placeholder for you. You'll be able to select a different distance when you report your finish time. Note: the medal is the same regardless of the distance you choose.
We've got a great selection of Merch options that we're adding to all the time. Check them out by clicking here!
About Wander Project
It's more important than ever to support the communities that inspire us to run, explore and of course, wander.
Wander Project is working closely with community partners and athletes to raise funds to help these communities survive the impacts they're seeing as a result of COVID 19.
We also know this has impacted other communities so we're expanding our reach! We're offering options to raise additional funds that can go to support nonprofit organizations in the areas athletes live... this means the money raised in your community will come back to your community!
This Event is Sponsored By
Note: Unfortunately, we can only ship to the US and its territories. We've had other customers set up virtual post office boxes where a company gives you a US address and then forwards your stuff to you. While we can't vouch for it, others have had success with this in the past: http://myusaddress.ca (for Canadians).
Only one registration can be done with one email address. Do not register simultaneously on two separate windows or devices using the same email address.
